Movieworks Cinema and BoJH star as local partners to keep a beloved community pastime playing on the big screen

Tyler Davis is a busy guy. Father, husband, entrepreneur, and community-minded businessman, he hit the ground running when he came to Jackson in 2012. With a variety of businesses and investments in his portfolio, he has a lot of banking needs, and he proudly works with BoJH for all of those.

We have been craving a bit of drama and action, so we asked Tyler to pull the curtain back on one of his latest projects, the Movieworks Cinema. A long-standing BoJH client, Movieworks has been around since the early 1990s and was owned by the late Frank Londy – a beloved member of the Jackson community and a passionate businessman himself. We chatted with Tyler and Meg Reeder, who has been at the Movieworks since 2000, to learn why this is a great time to visit the theater.

Why is a great time to come to Movieworks?

TD: I think it’s a great time to come to the movies to support a local business and bring back a local staple after a trying few years.

MR: There are some great movies coming out this spring and summer! We’re really excited about Top Gun: Maverick opening on Memorial Day weekend. It’s going to be epic! We’re also really excited about Jurassic World: Dominion and Lightyear – both hitting the Movieworks in June.

Many Jacksonites still haven’t experienced a movie in our luxury recliners, which were installed only nine months before COVID shut down cinemas across the country. They make for a super comfortable movie watching experience. Oh, and we now sell beer and wine in addition to all of your favorite movie snacks, drinks, and popcorn.

Movieworks

Tyler – you recently purchased Movieworks from Frank Londy, why did this business interest you?

TD: I am always looking for good business ventures, but never thought I’d own a movie theater. When the opportunity presented itself, it became one of those fun, unique projects that we all were interested in. We also wanted to do our best to make sure a movie theater remained locally-owned in Jackson.

The pandemic was hard on movie theaters. How did BoJH support your business?

MR: BoJH worked with Frank Londy to secure the PPP loans at the start of COVID, which kept us afloat during the time Movieworks was shut down. Without the loan, it’s hard to say where we’d be right now.

What films are you looking forward to seeing this year?

TD: For me, I can’t wait for Top Gun.

MR: Summer always brings some exciting titles. The beloved Minions are back in Minions: The Rise of Gru. We’re particularly looking forward to Thor: Love and Thunder, which reunites Thor star Chris Hemsworth with director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarock, Jojo Rabbit) along with some other beloved characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are plenty of original titles coming out this summer as well. Jordan Peele, director of the 2017 hit, Get Out, has a new sci-fi horror film coming out in July called Nope. Brad Pitt stars in an action/mystery/thriller titles Bullet Train. The summer holds a steady stream of promising titles. We look forward to seeing you all at the movies!

Why does Movieworks bank locally with BoJH?

TD: I use BoJH for all my business and real estate accounts. It’s great working with everyone there and being able to have a local banking relationship.
