Inclusive Outdoor Adventures Feb 22nd, 2022 Blog & News Community Stories Bank of Jackson Hole and Teton Adaptive Sports Announce Adaptive Scholarships Sponsorship Bank of Jackson Hole (BoJH) and Teton Adaptive Sports (TAS) are delighted to announce a new sponsorship supporting scholarships for people with disabilities for adaptive sports including adaptive skiing, paragliding and mountain biking for those who would otherwise be unable to participate. As a Double Black Diamond level sponsor, the community bank is also a presenting sponsor of the annual fundraising event, Après Soirée, and is committed to backing the nonprofit’s year-round inclusive mission. In recent years demand for adaptive outdoor activities has grown, and with BoJH’s generous support, the annual scholarship budget for TAS will grow to meet the demand. Twenty-five percent of the U.S. population has some form of disability. Those people are members of every subgroup and demographic in every community. Throughout history people with disabilities have been underrepresented and discriminated against subtly and overtly. For the last 17 years, TAS has been working to include people with disabilities in all that is special about Jackson Hole, creating a level of inclusion that is on the vanguard of national and global standards. Our community is committed to equality and equity for people with disabilities. BoJH’s support, which commenced in January 2022, will help continue and expand this lofty effort. “Outdoor recreation can be expensive, and adaptive versions of the same activities can be even more costly,” said TAS Executive Director Christy Fox. She went on to note, “Additional training, specialized equipment and partnership formation drive these costs up. BoJH’s help will bolster our efforts and will be used to remove barriers and create seamless access and a welcoming environment for people with disabilities, and we couldn’t be more pleased.” “We are thrilled to support Teton Adaptive in a new and impactful way,” stated BoJH incoming President Dawn Pruett. She added, “Their mission and vision is inspiring, and we look forward to providing new opportunities over the years by fostering the scholarship program with the goal to get more people with disabilities engaged in outdoor recreation in a safe, inspiring and supportive environment.” About Teton Adaptive Sports (TAS): Starting in 2005, TAS has supported adaptive sports in Teton County, Wyoming, and Teton County, Idaho, by purchasing and sharing specialized equipment, sending passionate instructors to adaptive training and subsidizing the cost of outdoor sports for people with disabilities. Today, TAS facilitates year-round programming in climbing, cycling, mountain biking, hiking, paddling, snowboarding, alpine and cross-country skiing, and ice skating/sled hockey with staff and partners committed to improving the quality of life for local athletes with disabilities and those visiting the area.
